गुरु पूर्णिमा — वेद-व्यास भगवान की जन्मतिथि और गुरु-शिष्य परम्परा के प्रति कृतज्ञता का पर्व। आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा को मनाया जाता है। शिष्य अपने गुरु का वन्दन करके, दक्षिणा अर्पित करते हैं और आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करते हैं। वेद, उपनिषद् और पुराणों के संकलनकर्ता व्यास के योगदान की स्मृति में गुरु गीता, गुरु स्तोत्र का पाठ किया जाता है। बौद्ध परम्परा में भी यह पर्व महत्वपूर्ण है — बुद्ध द्वारा सारनाथ में प्रथम उपदेश देने की तिथि।

According to tradition, Sage Vyasa was born on this day and composed the four Vedas, Mahabharata, and Puranas. Lord Shiva is also said to have become the first guru (Adi Guru) on this day when he began transmitting yoga to the Saptarishis.
