The Shakti Peethas are significant shrines and pilgrimage destinations in Shaktism. The legend is that the body parts of the corpse of Sati Devi fell in these places as Lord Shiva carried it and wandered in sorrow. There are 51 Shakti Peethas linking the 51 alphabets in Sanskrit.
